Workers in the electricity sector may caused a total blackout in the country, as its umbrella body; the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) on Monday 15 July, 2022, directed its members to mobilize for an industrial action.
In a circular tagged: Call for Action, signed by the union’s General Secretary, Joe Ajaero, workers were informed that a picking action of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Headquarters and Station nationwide in protest to an act of stigmatization of Staff, shall commence on Tuesday 16 July, 2022.
Addressed to the union’s Assistant General Secretaries, Zonal Organizing Secretaries and all members of NUEE, the letter read; “You are hereby enjoined to mobilise immediately for a serious picketing of TCN Headquarters and Stations nationwide over the directive by the TCN Board that all PMs in acting capacity going to AGM must appear for promotlon interview.
“This directive is in contravention of our Conditions of Service and Career Progression Paths, and unilaterally done without the relevant Stakeholders.
“Stigmatization of Staff from the office of the Head of Service of the Federation from working in other areas in the Power Sector.
“Refusal of the Market Operator to fund the payment of entitlement of Ex-PHCN Staff as agreed in December 2019 agreemem after an industrial action by the Union.
“This action takes effect from Tuesday 16th August, 2022 and total withdrawal of services commences on Wednesday l7th August, 2022. Ensure full compliance in all the Stations nationwide.”
