COVID-19: I’ll Be Back Very Soon – Ikpeazu Assures

Contrary to news making the rounds that Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who tested positive for Coronavirus last week is in critical condition, the governor has told his aide that he is doing fine and would soon return to his duty post.

The Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Mr. Enyinnaya Appolos, hinted that Ikpeazu told him in a phone conversation that he was responding to treatment and would soon be discharged.

“At exactly 5:18pm, Wednesday, 10th June, 2020, he said to me: “Nna, I’m very fine. Unu jide stage, very soon I will be back. I’m doing fine.” Apollos said.

According to the Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi, Ikpeazu tested negative on his first COVID-19 result that came out on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020.

But tested positive to a second result that came out on Thursday, 4th June, 2020.

“Recall that on Saturday, 30th May, 2020, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test and subsequently directed members of the state Executive Council (EXCO) and those of the inter ministerial committee on COVID-19 to submit themselves for the same test. On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020. The result of Governor Ikpeazu’s test returned negative.

“On Thursday, 4th June, 2020, the Governor submitted another sample at the Nigeria Center For Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory for confirmation and the result returned positive.

“As a result, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has gone into isolation, as required by relevant NCDC protocol, and he is being managed by a competent team of medical practitioners with a view to nursing him back to good health.”
